History of World of Pentecost

On February 19th, 1984, the World of Pentecost (known at that time as the "United Pentecostal Church") began their first service in a little storefront on 256 W. Davis Street. Advertisements had been placed in the local newspaper, "Come and visit Burlington's newest church". A piano and pulpit were set up and 24 chairs were placed in the 20' x 40' sanctuary in anticipation of what God would do.  Before long, 23 chairs were filled with souls- only one empty chair! Pastor Godair felt God telling him, See, I have filled twenty-three chairs, now you fill the last one!

Week after week, the chairs continued to be filled as the church moved forward.   After five years in the storefront, the congregation was able to purchase a former Methodist Church at 315 Spence Street, including a sanctuary and fellowship hall. The church continued growing, and additional acreage was added for parking and grounds, as well as a corner house and property used for Sunday School classes, encompassing 4.5 acres.

God continued blessing, and the World of Pentecost prospered.  In December 2005, with great celebrations and heartfelt praise to God, the church held their first service in a brand new building located near Interstate 40.  Already since that time, the church has acquired additional property surrounding the church, as well as, the house and property next door.

The church is already filling up all the empty seats, and continues to grow. In addition, the Spanish Church now worships in the Spence Street facilities during the week under the leadership of Pastor George Marti.  On Sunday evening our English and Spanish church worship all together at our Hanford Road location.

Pastor Godair and the congregation truly believe that the
best is yet to come. To God be the glory!
